Late corn management measures

At the end of the day, the corn stems and leaves stop growing and enter the reproductive growth period centered on grain development. In this period, the following points should be noted in management:

1. Watering in time. In the late growth stage of maize, the water requirement is large. The lack of water will lead to poor fertilization, premature senescence of leaves, decreased photosynthesis and nutrient transport capacity, and decreased grain weight. Therefore, when corn is in drought at the late growth stage, it should be poured with water in a timely manner to maintain the water holding capacity in the field at 80%; the milk ripening to wax maturity is maintained at 75-70%.

2. Leaf protection top. Do not perform leaf cutting in the corn wax maturity period, as this will reduce corn yield; and the more leaves, the more severe the yield reduction. Studies have shown that when corn matures, each leaf can retain 5 to 6 kilograms per acre.

3. Properly late. When the corn leaf is dry and loose, the grain becomes hard and shiny, the milk line disappears, and the black layer appears at the base, which is the ripening period, and the harvest yield is the highest. However, summer maize is often forced to harvest without affecting production. In particular, some compact varieties have the phenomenon of “false ripening”, and it takes 8 to 10 days for the white leaves to mature. Therefore, under the premise of not affecting the timely cultivation of wheat, corn should be collected as late as possible; if it is urgently needed, and the corn is immature, it can be harvested with the ear, and then bundled to form a cluster to promote its ripening.
