Silky chicken rearing technology

The young chickens have underdeveloped digestive systems, so it's important to feed them easily digestible food. In the first few days, you can mix 1 egg yolk with the feed for every 18 chicks daily. As they grow older, starting at 10 days of age, you can gradually introduce more varied ingredients into their diet. For example, add 10-20% cornmeal, 8-10% chopped green vegetables, 1-1.5% bone meal, 1-1.5% fish meal, and 0.5% fine sand that has been washed with water. By the time they are 30 days old, you can switch to a mixture of crushed green vegetables, along with added bone meal, fish meal, and shell powder. It’s also recommended to feed them pellets like barley or millet 1-2 times a day. During the first two weeks after hatching, it's crucial to prevent diseases such as paratyphoid fever and P. berghei. To do this, you can add 0.04% furazolid to their feed daily. After 15 days of age, reduce the concentration to 0.01% of furazolid in their daily meals. At 45 days old, special attention should be given to preventing and treating chicken tsutsugamushi disease. Vaccination against Newcastle disease is also important, and it’s typically done at 8, 25, and 66 days of age. Chicks require proper environmental conditions depending on their growth stage. They need warmth and humidity control, and the living area should be well-ventilated with adequate light. Feeders and waterers must be cleaned daily, and disinfected with a hot sodium hydroxide solution every two weeks to maintain hygiene. During winter, hens benefit from additional lighting to stimulate egg production. According to experiments, extending daylight to 13-14 hours per day helps increase egg output. From November to January, use 15-60 watt bulbs to provide extra light in the morning (5:00–6:30 AM) and evening (5:00–8:00 PM), and again from 11:00 PM to 2:00 AM. This artificial lighting helps regulate their biological clock and encourages better feeding and laying habits. It’s also important to "wake up" Baowo chickens, especially silky breeds, which tend to stay in nests for long periods. A simple method is to offer them Yan Dan (a type of grain or seed) when they are found nesting. Feed them about 15 kernels each morning and evening for 3-5 days, then provide high-quality feed. With this care, they usually start laying eggs again within 7-12 days.
