After harvesting, if the bed isn’t adequately rehydrated, it can result in poor subsequent flushes.
5. **Excessive Mycelium Growth**: When the moisture content in the substrate is too high, the surface becomes overly humid, reducing the wet-dry cycle that encourages fruiting. This leads to excessive hyphal growth and the formation of a thick fungal skin on the surface, which inhibits mushroom development.
6. **Pest and Disease Infestation**: Bacterial contamination can compete with the mycelium for nutrients and release harmful substances that inhibit growth. Pests such as mites or insects can damage the mycelium, causing it to become weak or even collapse, ultimately leading to no mushroom production.
7. **Poor Ventilation**: Inadequate air circulation leads to low oxygen levels and high carbon dioxide concentration inside the growing chamber. Poor lighting and ventilation are particularly problematic in underground farms, making it difficult for the mushrooms to develop properly.
To avoid these issues, it’s essential to closely monitor and manage each stage of the oyster mushroom's growth. Adjusting temperature, humidity, and ventilation according to the specific needs of the variety can significantly improve yield and ensure consistent mushroom production throughout the growing season.
