American researchers say that for middle-aged people, excessive exercise can damage the knee.
The research results were published at the annual meeting of the Radiological Society of North America. The researchers selected more than 200 normal-weight people between the ages of 45 and 55, including those who had never experienced knee pain before, and investigated their exercise intensity and knee health. It was found that the greater the exercise intensity, the more likely the knee was to have problems and the more likely it was to suffer from osteoarthritis.
This study shows that shock and heavy-duty forms of exercise, such as running and jumping, may be more harmful to cartilage; conversely, smaller forms of exercise, such as swimming and cycling, or help with cartilage care. However, some organizations believe that the benefits of exercise outweigh the potential risks. A spokeswoman for the Arthritis Research Organization said: "We have been known for many years that exercise and work with a greater degree of impact are associated with a high incidence of osteoarthritis, especially at the knee. But for the vast majority of people Said that sports have a lot of benefits." Meditech Medical Network
