Tang Cunzhen, a 51-year-old farmer from Guicui Road in Tangquan Town, has been deeply involved in aquaculture for decades. In the 1990s, he took on the challenge of managing 160 acres of water in Maoquan, focusing on raising special aquatic species. His passion for innovation led him to introduce hybrid blackfish from Guangdong in 2002, driven by market demand and his own curiosity. After years of trial and error, he developed a complete system for breeding hybrid blackfish in ponds, including detailed technical solutions that significantly improved productivity.
By 2006, the aquaculture area under Guicui Road had expanded to 100 acres, with each acre producing around 5,000 catties of adult fish. The revenue per acre reached 32,500 yuan, while the average profit per acre was about 12,000 yuan. This success not only made Tang a local role model but also inspired many other farmers in the region to follow his lead.
In terms of technical details, it's recommended to select an area of approximately 10 acres with a water depth between 1 and 2.5 meters for optimal breeding conditions. Every month, about 5,000 blackfish fry are introduced into the pond, and they are regularly fed with extruded feed or small fish. Hybrid blackfish grow quickly, with the first-stage fish reaching about 500 grams, and their feed conversion rate is typically around 1.15. When it comes to harvesting, it's best to do so at the end of November according to the lunar calendar. Farmers can either use nets to catch the fish or drain the pond to separate the larger ones from the smaller ones. These methods ensure efficient and effective harvests, contributing to the overall success of the aquaculture operation.
