Cultivator fuel-efficient

With extensive experience, several techniques can be applied to significantly cut down fuel consumption and operating costs when using a cultivator in paddy fields. These methods not only improve efficiency but also ensure better performance and safer operation.

First, make use of the "fast" gear whenever possible. If the paddy field is of suitable size and the ditches or pits don’t interfere with the work, the operator should try to use the quick gear setting. This involves increasing the throttle to a higher, yet appropriate, position so that the engine speed approaches or reaches its rated level. However, it's important to slow down when making turns to maintain control and avoid accidents.

Second, maintain an optimal cultivation depth. The tillage depth should be moderate—neither too deep nor too shallow. A depth of around 10–12 cm is generally ideal for paddy fields. Too deep a tillage increases fuel usage and reduces operator comfort, while too shallow may not meet the required soil preparation standards. In terms of width, aim for 24–26 cm to maximize the soil’s tearing effect and improve efficiency. If the width is too narrow, it can lead to lower productivity and higher fuel use, whereas overly wide tilling may result in gaps between furrows, reducing effectiveness. Try to keep the wheels close to the unturned area to achieve the best results.

Third, keep the width and depth of cultivation consistent. Always strive to move in straight lines during the operation. To do this, choose a clear target at the far end and focus on maintaining a straight path. If you notice any deviation, correct it immediately. For irregularly shaped fields, work carefully to make the surface smooth and even. Avoid placing your feet on the lifting pedals of the implement, as this can cause inconsistent depth and affect the quality of the tillage.

Fourth, keep the throttle light and avoid unnecessary idling. Minimize the weight on the balance board, such as excess mud, to reduce resistance and save fuel. However, be careful not to compromise the machine’s stability, as proper balance is essential for effective and safe farming operations.

By applying these practical tips, farmers can enhance their productivity while keeping fuel and operational costs under control. It’s all about finding the right balance between speed, depth, and precision to get the most out of every session in the paddy field.
