Preventing or alleviating the activities of birds in the vineyard on the premise of protecting birds is the most fundamental measure to defend against bird damage in vineyards. Currently, the bird-proof measures that are suitable for use in vineyards include:
Ears bagging. Ear bagging is the easiest way to prevent bird damage, and it also prevents the influence of pests, pesticides, and dust on the ear. However, large birds such as gray magpies and crows can often break through paper bags to feed grapes. Therefore, good quality and strong paper bags must be used. Nylon mesh bags can be used for bagging in areas where there are many birds. This will not only prevent bird damage but will not affect fruit coloring.
Set up bird nets. Anti-bird nets are suitable for large-scale vineyards as well as small-scale vineyards or garden grapes. The method is to increase the length of the 8th to 10th wire from the No. 8 to No. 10 iron wire on the surface of the grapevine. Supports grids, which are laid with special anti-bird nets made of nylon filaments. The nets hang down around the ground and compacted with soil to prevent birds from flying in from the side. Since most birds have poor resolution of dark colors, white nylon nets should be used as much as possible. Black or green nylon nets should not be used. In regions where hail is frequent, adjusting the size of the grid and combining the flood prevention net with the anti-bird net is a good measure to do more with less.
Add an isolation network. Prefabricated barbed wire and nylon nets of suitable specifications shall be set up on the air inlet and outlet of air-dried raisins, vents and air vents to prevent birds from entering.
Improve cultivation methods. In areas where there is frequent bird damage, proper conservation of leaves, cover of the ear, and attention to the health conditions around the orchard can also significantly reduce the occurrence of bird damage.
