While it can affect various organs in the body, it primarily targets the lungs, hence the term "tuberculosis." Known historically as "rickets" or the "white plague," it is one of the oldest infectious diseases known to humanity. Newly developed technologies now include the use of whole blood immune response assays and molecular biology techniques for identification. These methods have gained widespread recognition for their high sensitivity and specificity both locally and internationally. With these advancements, test reports can now be completed within a single day, offering a much faster and more efficient diagnostic option. This progress not only improves patient care but also helps reduce the burden on healthcare systems by enabling earlier and more accurate diagnoses. As technology continues to evolve, the fight against tuberculosis becomes more effective and accessible.
