Special care recommended: Yila rabbit (Figure)

The Yila rabbit is a hybrid breed developed by the French European Rabbit Industry Corporation in the late 1970s. It was created through various crossbreeding experiments and selection from nine original breeds, resulting in four distinct lines: A, B, C, and D. Each line has its own unique characteristics and genetic traits. Thanks to the advantages of hybrid vigor, Yila rabbits are known for their stable genetics, fast growth, high feed conversion efficiency, strong disease resistance, large litter sizes, and superior meat quality. Adult weight: 5.0 kg Daily gain: 50 g Average birth size: 8.35 Fertility rate: 76% Weaning mortality: 10.31% Feed conversion ratio: 3.0:1 Yila rabbits can reach 2.5 kg at just 75 days old, with a net meat yield of 1.5 kg. According to experts, most rabbits have a meat yield of around 50%, while Yila rabbits achieve 58% to 60%, which is 8% to 10% higher than regular breeds. Their meat is also more tender, rich in lecithin, high in protein, and low in fat, earning it the nickname “beauty food.” In addition to being used in various dishes, Yila rabbits are primarily sold as white meat in the market. They are mainly exported to Europe, followed by Russia, due to the large consumer base in Europe. Annual exports amount to approximately 1,000 tons. Yila rabbits have a higher reproductive capacity compared to ordinary rabbits. While typical rabbits usually have about 6 litters per year, Yila rabbits can produce 8–9 litters, with some reaching up to 11–12. The survival rate is generally over 95%. Yila rabbits grow quickly, reaching 2.5 kg within 75 days, and adult commercial rabbits typically weigh 4.5 kg on average. They thrive in environments with an optimal temperature of 28°C and humidity between 40% and 70%. However, high levels of ammonia can lead to respiratory issues like rhinitis, so good ventilation is essential. These rabbits are ideal for small-scale farmers practicing garden-style farming. A group consists of one male and four females, producing around 240 offspring annually. At a market price of 10 yuan per kilogram, each group can generate a gross income of 5,000 yuan per year, with a 50% profit margin. According to Wang Yongxiang, director of the China Association of Agricultural Technology and Rabbit Industry, the current market price for meat rabbits ranges from 14 to 16 yuan per kilogram domestically, with higher prices in coastal areas (24–26 yuan/kg). In 2006, China's rabbit meat exports were expected to reach about 10,000 tons at a price of 2.4 US dollars per kilogram. Compared to other meat rabbits, Yila rabbits have significantly higher meat yields. For example, while a regular rabbit might have a net meat weight of 1.15 kg, a Yila rabbit can reach 1.5 kg. This makes them highly valued in both domestic and international markets. In terms of breeding, Yila rabbits are known for their high productivity. A single litter can have up to eight kits, and their high survival rate ensures consistent production. Farmers who raise Yila rabbits often see substantial returns, making it a profitable option for small-scale agriculture. Overall, the Yila rabbit stands out for its rapid growth, high meat yield, and excellent breeding performance, making it a top choice for both commercial and home-based rabbit farming.
