Two major pollution prevention of vegetables

Vegetable heavy metal pollution and biological pollution are two major factors that seriously affect the safety and quality of vegetables. Since growers can hardly detect the indicators, the two types of pollution in production are easily overlooked. This article describes the basic measures to prevent these two kinds of pollution from the source and provides a reference for the majority of growers.
First, heavy metal pollution
1. It is prohibited to use untreated industrial wastewater to irrigate vegetable fields. For vegetable gardens with many years of sewage irrigation, organic matter, total nitrogen, total phosphorus, and available nitrogen and phosphorus nutrients in the soil were significantly higher than those in the clean water irrigation district. However, it must be pointed out that the content of lead, cadmium, and mercury in soils in sewage irrigation areas is also significantly higher than that in clean water irrigation areas. Once heavy metal elements enter the food chain, the consequences are extremely serious. So, in order to prevent heavy metal pollution of vegetables. Untreated industrial wastewater must be prohibited from irrigating vegetable fields.
2. Sludge should not be applied directly. Sludge is the solid waste after biochemical treatment of sewage. Its composition is complicated. Both contains a large number of organic substances and various nutrients, but also contains a certain amount of pathogenic bacteria, parasite eggs, heavy metals and some difficult to decompose toxic compounds. Therefore, the sludge should be treated in advance before it can be used after it is qualified.
Second, biological pollution
1. Human excrement must be detoxified before it can be used in vegetable fields. Some farmers in my county have the habit of diluting and sprinkling vegetables. This practice should be changed.
2. Livestock manure must be composted. The purpose is not only to promote nutrient release, but more importantly, to use microorganisms to decompose organic matter and produce high temperatures (70°C) to destroy germs, eggs and viruses, so as to avoid biological contamination of vegetables.
Expert Tips:
1. To produce pollution-free vegetables, we must master measures such as reducing nitrates, preventing heavy metal pollution, and preventing biofouling.
2. To prevent heavy metal pollution from vegetables, it is forbidden to use untreated industrial wastewater to irrigate vegetable fields. At the same time, untreated sludge should not be used directly.
3. In order to prevent biological contamination of commercial foods, it must be done: human wastes are harmlessly treated; livestock wastes are composted.
