Multi-pronged tube for good overwintering cucumber

Recently, the weather has been quite unpredictable. As overwintering cucumbers enter their fruiting stage, vegetable farmers need to pay close attention to their management practices. Understanding the growth characteristics of the plants and maintaining proper conditions in the greenhouse are essential for achieving high yields. Here are some important reminders for local farmers:

One key point is to avoid drastic temperature fluctuations inside the greenhouse. With the current warm weather, it's advisable to slightly increase the temperature—by about 1°C to 2°C above normal. This helps the plants grow more vigorously, which is crucial for high productivity.

Watering and using active bacterial fertilizers can significantly help in promoting fruit development. Due to the recent high temperatures and increased evaporation, crops are at higher risk of water stress, which can directly affect yield. Therefore, farmers should increase watering frequency. It’s better to provide more water than to reduce it, while also being cautious with fertilizer use. Excessive nitrogen should be avoided, and potassium should be added based on the plant's growth stage. For example, when fruits are developing, a light dose of nitrogen is sufficient, but once the harvest period is past, a bit more nitrogen and less potassium may be needed.

When applying fertilizers, the "two mixed and one clear" method is recommended: mix fertilizer with manure, then flush with clean water. The amount of fertilizer should be adjusted according to the crop's needs. Additionally, long-term watering and fertilizing can lead to soil compaction, reducing root health due to poor aeration. Using active bacterial fertilizers can help break up the soil, improve its structure, and enhance permeability. These beneficial bacteria also help decompose unused chemicals in the soil, reducing salt buildup and promoting healthier root systems.

It’s also important to strengthen leaf protection and manage diseases promptly. Alongside ecological prevention methods, farmers should carefully apply pesticides. Avoid overuse or incorrect application, as this can harm the plants. When symptoms appear, use effective treatments immediately to prevent disease spread and maintain healthy foliage.

Finally, regular plant adjustments are necessary. Remove old, diseased leaves, tendrils, and vines, while ensuring that at least 14 functional leaves remain. When harvesting, consider the plant's overall health—strong plants can support larger fruits, while weaker ones should be pruned to smaller ones. This helps maintain balance between vine growth and fruit development, leading to better overall yield and quality.
