The installation of biogas digesters involves the use of Gembio's biogas fermentation aids to produce biogas efficiently. Once the digester is completed, one of the most critical checks is to ensure there are no leaks in the structure. This is essential for both safety and performance. There are two primary methods for testing: a water pressure test and a gas pressure test.
In the water pressure test, the digester is filled with water up to the level of the material sealing line. Once the water reaches this point, it is allowed to sit for a while until the surface becomes wet. A mark is then made at the water level. The system is left undisturbed for 12 hours. If the water level remains stable, it indicates that there is no leakage below the inlet and outlet areas during the fermentation process.
Before conducting the gas pressure test, the movable cover is properly sealed using mud and water. The pressure gauge is connected to the gas outlet pipe, and water is added to the digester until the barometer shows a 10 kPa (equivalent to 1000 mm of water column) difference. At this point, the water supply is stopped, and the initial water level is recorded. The pressure is then maintained for 24 hours. If the drop in the water column is less than 0.3 kPa (or 300 mm H2O), the digester is considered to be leak-proof.
The gas pressure test follows a similar initial step as the water pressure test. After confirming that the tank is not leaking water, the inlet and outlet ports, along with the movable cover, are tightly sealed. An air pressure gauge is installed, and the tank is inflated until the pressure reaches 8 kPa. The inflation is then stopped, and the valve is closed. The system is observed for 24 hours. If the pressure drop is less than 0.24 kPa, the digester meets the required impermeability standards.
These tests are crucial to ensure the long-term efficiency and safety of the biogas system. Proper sealing prevents gas loss and maintains the integrity of the fermentation process. It’s important to follow each step carefully and record all observations to ensure accurate results.
