Ducks typically do not lay eggs during the period from early winter to the height of summer. However, based on traditional farming practices, there are effective methods to encourage ducks to produce eggs throughout all four seasons.
First, in spring, when the weather becomes warm and food is abundant, ducks are more active. It's important to extend their time outside so they can eat more and bask in the sun. The feeding strategy should be "fast on an empty stomach, full in the morning, and less in the afternoon." This helps stimulate their appetite and keeps them healthy.
Second, in summer, when temperatures rise, it's crucial to keep ducks cool to avoid heat stress. If they become restless at night, you can lead them into the water to cool off. During feeding, reduce the amount of food given at once but increase the frequency. Adding more green feed can also help maintain their health and egg production.
Third, in autumn, with cooler weather and plenty of aquatic life, ducks tend to eat more and gain weight. To prevent fat buildup that could affect egg-laying, it's important to control their diet and encourage more physical activity. Increasing their movement helps maintain their energy levels and supports consistent egg production.
Fourth, in winter, duck egg production often declines, and shells may become thinner. A common practice is to induce artificial molting by plucking feathers from the wings and tail, then feeding them a high-energy diet. After about seven to eight days, new feathers will grow, and after approximately 20 days, the ducks will resume laying eggs.
