Good feed on watermelon rind

Watermelon rind can be an excellent feed for fingerlings due to its high palatability, easy digestibility, and good nutrient absorption. Using watermelon rind as a feed not only expands the feed source but also helps reduce production costs by 15% to 20%, while simultaneously minimizing environmental pollution. There are two common methods for using watermelon rind: fresh feeding and drying. For fresh feeding, the rind is chopped or beaten with a mixer and then scattered throughout the pond to feed oysters, clams, grass carp, squid, and other aquatic species. It is typically done twice a day. The recommended amount is about 80 to 100 kilograms per acre of water, depending on water quality. Alternatively, for every thousand fish, you can add 60 to 80 kilograms of watermelon rind directly into the pond, allowing the fish to consume the pulp. In addition to providing nutrition, the rind also helps improve water quality by promoting the growth of natural food sources. The key to this method is to soften the pulp before feeding, which makes it easier for the fish to digest. For dry feeding, the watermelon rind is first peeled using a planer, then sun-dried and ground into a fine powder. This powder can be mixed with other feeds and given to fish at a rate of 2 to 3 kilograms per acre per day, divided into three meals. Combining it with other feeds ensures a balanced diet and better overall performance. Using watermelon rind as a feed not only offers economic benefits but also supports sustainable aquaculture practices. It's a great way to recycle agricultural by-products and reduce waste, making it an environmentally friendly and cost-effective choice for farmers.
